Good Riddance Day Event

New York, NY. October 31, 2014 – As the New Year approaches, Shred-it International (“Shred-it”), the world-leading information security company, is encouraging people to Shred-it and forget it, and officially say goodbye to 2014.

Shred-it, along with its partners, the co-organizers of New Year’s Eve in Times Square, Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, today announced that they are now accepting submissions for the 2014 Good Riddance Day Contest.  At the annual New Year’s event, Shred-it will park a mobile shredding truck in Times Square so participants can dispose of their funny, outlandish and sometimes heartbreaking memories of the past year permanently.

“Symbolically destroying the negative in one’s life can often provide closure needed to move forward. We are honoured to continue the tradition of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Good Riddance Day and provide individuals the opportunity to say goodbye to the bad, and get a fresh start to the New Year.” said Bruce Andrew, Executive Vice President at Shred-it.

“Good Riddance Day was inspired by a Latin American tradition in which New Year’s revelers put artifacts or bad memories from the previous year into dolls and set them on fire,” said Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance.  “Here in Times Square, we might not be starting a bonfire, but we do encourage all New Yorkers and visitors alike to join us in the shedding and shredding, of forgettable memories from this year.”

“Good Riddance Day will continue to be a huge success thanks to our new partnership with Shred-it,” added Jeffrey Straus, President, Countdown Entertainment. “Participants can prepare to celebrate the New Year in Times Square with a clean slate knowing that their unwanted memories of the past year have been safely destroyed by a Shred-it secure mobile shredding truck.”
