New data protection legislation that will affect businesses globally, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is due to come into force in in May 2018. Developed to streamline existing data protection laws and increase protection for personal data of EU citizens anywhere in the world, the new legislation will impact organisations on a global scale. Any organisation collecting or handling the personal data of EU citizens will need to comply, regardless of whether it is based within the EU or outside it, leaving no doubt that many businesses in Singapore will need to comply.
