The 2019 Shred-it Data Protection Report (DPR), found that if a data breach were to occur, this would not only cost businesses their customers, but also their employees. In fact, half of Canadians feel like their data is less secure now than it was a few years ago. The 2019 DPR reveals that if businesses don’t take the issue of data protection seriously and increase their employee training and commitment to the issue, they risk taking a hit to the bottom line and will struggle to retain talent.

About the Data Protection Study & Report
In its 9th year, this survey identifies the insights, opinions and best practices of data protection among Small Business Owners (SBOs), C-Suite Executives (C-Suites) and members of the public at large from across the country to help Canadians better navigate this changing privacy landscape. The goal is to uncover – and quantify – both the risks and opportunities Canadian businesses and consumers face, including the upsides and downsides of mishandling data and/or being breached. While the previous reports were branded as the Shred-it State of the Industry Report, this year it has been renamed to the Shred-it Data Protection Report – a name that more closely reflects the focus of the report and the value of the intelligence it provides.
