Data Protection Report

C-Suites and Small Business Owners (SBOs)

Although C-Suites and SBOs recognize data security risks, they underestimate the consequences those risks entail

The 2019 Shred-it Data Protection Report (DPR) found that even though C-Suites and SBOs recognize that data security risks exist, they fail to understand the impact the breaches can have on their organizations. In fact, 66% of Canadian businesses confirm they are likely to report a breach over the next five years. Through the 2019 DPR, Shred-it hopes to educate business owners on how to mitigate risks in their workplaces to ensure that information security remains a top priority.

About the Data Protection Study & Report

In its 9th year, this survey identifies the insights, opinions and best practices of data protection among Small Business Owners (SBOs), C-Suite Executives (C-Suites) and members of the public at large from across the country to help Canadians better navigate this changing privacy landscape. The goal is to uncover – and quantify – both the risks and opportunities Canadian businesses and consumers face, including the upsides and downsides of mishandling data and/or being breached. While the previous reports were branded as the Shred-it State of the Industry Report, this year it has been renamed to the Shred-it Data Protection Report – a name that more closely reflects the focus of the report and the value of the intelligence it provides.
