TORONTO, ON - March 25, 2010-- Shred-it, the world’s leading on site document destruction company and PostNet have joined forces to help consumers fight identity theft and fraud in support of Fraud Prevention Month, by holding a National Community Shred Day on March 27th. During the month of March, Fraud Prevention Forum (FPF) member organizations will raise awareness of the dangers of fraud, while educating the public on how to “Recognize it, Report it and Stop it.”
The National Community Shred Day will be held at PostNet locations across Canada (see attached locations). Shred-it mobile shredding trucks will be available on site for community members to bring all the documents they can carry to be shredded for free. With 20-plus years of experience providing information security solutions to business, government and non-profit clients around the world, representatives from Shred-it will be on-hand to answer any questions consumers may have in regards to identity theft and fraud prevention.
“Shred-it is proud to support Fraud Prevention Month, and to provide an opportunity for community members to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud,” says Vincent R. De Palma, President and CEO at Shred-it. “We help our clients protect themselves and their customers every day by destroying documents that are no longer needed. Organizing Community Shred events across Canada will raise awareness about the dangers of identity theft and fraud and encourages community members to take the necessary steps to protect themselves from these crimes.”
”PostNet is very pleased to be a part of Fraud Prevention Month. Small businesses and families need to know that their private documents can be destroyed and recycled in a manner that leaves them as protected as big corporations, but in a manner that is cost-effective for them,” states R.J. (Rob) Anderson, PostNet President.
To prevent personal identity theft, Shred-it advises to shred the following sensitive documents and old files:
- Receipts
- Cheques
- Pre-approved Credit Applications / Credit Card Statements, that are no longer required
- Outdated Tax Returns, that are no longer required
- Letterhead
- Envelopes & Return Address Labels
- Business Cards
