Shred-it and Capital One co-sponsored the second annual National Community Shred event, in partnership with the Canadian Competition Bureau on March 31st from 10AM-2PM. This event was held to promote public awareness about identity theft and fraud prevention. Shred-it's mobile shredding trucks were at more than 25 locations across Canada. Community members were invited to bring their unwanted personal documents to be securely shredded, free of charge. Shredding personal information is a key step that individuals can take to prevent becoming victims of identity theft.
Identity Theft Awareness
Identity theft is the fastest growing form of consumer fraud in North America. Consumers can protect themselves against identity theft by regularly destroying confidential documents, rather than disposing of them in non-secure places where they can be stolen, such as garbage bags or recycling bins. Tips and resources on how to guard against identity theft will be offered on site.
