Fraud Prevention SHRED-IT COMMUNITY SHRED^®

On Saturday March 25, 2006, in partnership with the Canadian Competition Bureau, Shred-it helped Canadians fight identity theft and fraud. The first ever National Fraud Prevention Shred-it COMMUNITY SHRED was held at twenty locations across Canada. Canadians are now more aware of the dangers of identity theft, and how to protect themselves against it.

During the National Community Shred day, thousands of Canadians took advantage of Shred-it’s mobile shredding service. In all, over 150,000 pounds of unwanted personal documents were shredded, free of charge. The event was well publicized and covered by numerous media including television stations and newspapers across the country.

Identity Theft Awareness

Identity theft is the fastest growing form of consumer fraud in North America. Consumers can protect themselves against identity theft by regularly destroying confidential documents rather than disposing of them in non-secure places where they can be stolen such as garbage bags or recycling bins.
