Data Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2003
Data protection is concerned with the protection of people’s fundamental right to privacy, and their right to exercise control over how personal information is used.
In 2003 The Data Protection Act was amended to ensure organisations have appropriate security measures are in place for manual data as well as automated data. Such security measures are required to protect information from the harm that might result from unauthorised or unlawful access, alteration, disclosure or destruction and against it’s accidental loss or destruction.
The Shred-it service has helped many organisations throughout Ireland protect their information and comply with this area of the Data Protection Act.
In addition, all reasonable measures should be taken to ensure that your staff are made aware of the organisation’s security measures, and comply with them. Shred-it has the experience and know-how to assist organisations in drafting a Document Destruction Policy, for distribution among employees.
