NBC 17 Shred-it Event Again Draws Huge Crowds

For the fourth year in a row Shred-it North Carolina has partnered with NBC 17

to provide a free shredding day for the public. The event, sponsored by Shred-it,

NBC 17, Colony Tire, Garner TV and Appliance, Goodwill Industries, Fort Bragg

Federal Credit Union, South Lakes Community and Belk's Department Stores

drew 3785 persons across the region and over 84,000 pounds of paper was

collected, shredded and recycled. That represents about 422 trees saved. Thanks

to all of the volunteers who made this event successful.

Shred-it Teams with UNC Greensboro for Shred-a-Thon:

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro teamed with Shred-it North Carolina to do a campus-wide clean-out initiative on July 24th. For several weeks prior to the event the school collected documents that might have sensitive or confidential information on them and stored the material in a secure location until the day of the Shred-a-thon. The event was widely publicized across the campus prior to the clean-out initiative.

Thanks to the hard work and coordination of Jenny Paige, Ben Kunka and their staff from the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling and especially Barbara Tookey from Information Technology Services, over 23,000 pounds of paper was shredded and recycled, thus saving an estimated 115 trees in the process.

Below are some photographs from the event:

They brought paper from all over the campus....by truck, by cart, by car and by foot.

Red Flag Seminar

July 21 and 23, 2009

Shred-it's Greensboro and Charlotte recently hosted seminars on the new Red Flag legislation originally slated to go into effect on August 1st, 2009. Recent action by the Federal Trade Commission has since delayed implementation until November 1st, 2009.

Caroline Farmer, Deputy Director of the North Carolina Department of Justice was the guest speaker at both events. The seminars in Raleigh on July 21st and Charlotte on July 23rd both drew a good group from industries affected by the new law. Plans are being developed to offer additional

information seminars conducted through the web. Dates for these webinars will be posted on both branch websites.
